Mike Svob – Paint & Create Croatia

Master impressionist painter Mike Svob has designed a creative program to Croatia that is certain to entice the senses and stoke the creative fire. If your Mediterranean fantasies feature plein-air painting by sapphire waters, ancient walled towns, hillsides of breathtaking beauty, and incredible cuisine, then joining Mike Svob’s Paint & Create Croatia Tour will turn those fantasies into reality. This 14 day tour explores Croatia’s extraordinary island-speckled coastline from the coastal city of Split to the islands of Hvar and Korčula to the walled-city of ending in Dubrovnik.
Poised between the Balkans and central Europe, this land is steeped in history and has been passed between competing kingdoms, empires and republics for millennia. Being in this precarious position has had a great influence on Croatian art, architecture, and gastronomy.

During this Croatia painting tour, each painting day or half painting day will begin with an outdoor painting demonstration by Mike. Each painting demonstration will consist of an on location painting technique or lesson to help all participants become not only better artists, but more proficient in plein air painting practice. Mike will share tips, insight, methods, explain materials and include discussion of the deep psychological artist bafflegab that makes being an artist so much fun. Following the demo, Mike will work with individual participants to help create their own works of art. Evenings are split up with some being free a few with group dinners and at least one critique.

Always buzzing, this lively city has the perfect balance of tradition and modernity. Step inside Diocletian’s Palace – a UNESCO
World Heritage Site and very impressive Roman monuments – and you’ll see dozens of bars, restaurants and shops thriving
amid the atmospheric old walls. Split has a unique setting with dramatic coastal mountains acting as the perfect backdrop to
the turquoise waters of the Adriatic.

Dalmatian coast, its Old-Town cluster of palaces, belfries and cobbled alleys fanning out from an antique central square.
Founded by Greeks from Vis in the third century BC, Trogir can compare with any of the towns on the coast in terms of historic
sights, and its cathedral is one of the finest in the Adriatic.
After exploring the charming town, we drive up to a vineyard on the hill above Trogir, where we will have lunch, wine tasting
and time for painting. We will return to Split just after the sunset.

The island’s capital, Hvar Town, is one of the Adriatic’s best-preserved historic towns, and also one of its most glamorous,
with paparazzi roving the Riva to see who is disembarking from which yacht.
The ferry to Hvar Town is approximately 1.5hrs.

Day 5: Hvar (Painting)
Hvar is certainly well endowed with natural beauty: a slim, purple-grey slice of land punctured by jagged inlets and pebbly
coves, with lavender plantations, vineyards and half-abandoned stone villages clinging to its steep central ridge. It boasts to
be the sunniest spot in the country with 2724 sunny hours each year!
This morning we have a walking tour of its small, historical streets and along promenade. After the walking tour, you will have
the remainder of the day to paint.

Day 9: Hvar to Korčula
This morning we depart by a one hour ferry to the picturesque island of Korčula. Cloaked in vineyards, olives and Aleppo
pines, Korčula is Croatia’s greenest island stretching nearly 47km in length. Dense woods led the original Greek settlers to call
the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Korčula). Quiet coves and small sandy beaches dot the steep southern coast while the
northern shore is flatter and more pebbly.
Arguably the best of all Croatian whites is produced from pošip grapes, which are only grown here and to a lesser extent on
the Pelješac Peninsula.
Upon arrival we will have a guided city tour and wine tasting.
*Please note that this day depends on the ferry schedule

Day 10: Korčula Island (Painting)

Europe, Dubrovnik has always exerted a firm hold over the popular imagination as a sea-battered city lying at the foot of a
grizzled mountains. Its use from 2011 to 2016 as a location for HBO series Game of Thrones bestowed the city with a new and
